It is best to have some rest ranging from 24 to 48 hours after you suffer from a pinched nerve pain. Find a very stable and flat surface with minimal cushioning. It would be better if you would lie down on a hard surface especially if the pain is killing your back. A very soft mattress would only make the pain more intense. Never exert any effort that would only further strain the back or the area where the pinched nerve is located. A good rest will always allow the nerve to regain strength and would allow the pain and inflammation contained.

Fruits
Eating plenty of fruits can help ease the inflammation. Since the nerve would be shooting searing pain caused by the inflammation it is best to eat foods that can help bring the pain down. Fruits like apples are great as an anti-inflammatory agent. Apples have been proven to be able to help people whose bodies are inflamed. The food can make the body more acidic thus can contribute to the searing pan that you experience with a pinched nerve condition. Drinking alkaline water can help balance the pH level in the body. It is also helpful to cut down if not eliminate the acidic food that you would eat. Eating more healthy and real foods and eliminating processed food in your diet will not only help you control the pain but also has a lot of health benefits as well.

Turmeric
Turmeric is known as a spice that you can readily find in your kitchen. But turmeric can also become a potent anti-inflammatory agent. That is why it is best to have a taste of turmeric while you can in order to help you get over the hump of the pain and suffering of having a pinched nerve. Turmeric helps by protecting the body from oxidative stress that comes from the fat of foods that you eat.  Turmeric has been shown to be more effective than ginger and some drugs against inflammation. It is also great in blocking bad cholesterol from wreaking havoc to the body.

Compress
Both hot and cold compress can help people alleviate some of the pain caused by the pinched nerve. Some people find relief from the pain by alternating hot and cold compress over the affected area. Start with a 15-minute session with hot compress or a heating pad or anything that you have that can provide some heat. Be careful in keeping yourself from being burned. Afterwards, try to have another 15-minute session this time with an ice pack or a frozen sponge inside a Ziploc bag. Do this treatment within a two-hour main session.

Brace
A soft back brace can help support the back so that the nerve can rest and avoid unnecessary strain. It is recommended especially for new sufferers. Find something that is comfortable and can help you do minor stuff or tasks around the house or in the office. Remember to work only on light tasks that do not put much strain on your back otherwise you will find yourself suffering from pain and anxiety.

There is no description apt to describe the kind of searing pain that comes from a pinched nerve. The pain can range from throbbing and dull pain to a razor-sharp pain.
